For me and the viewer, the pieces are catalysts in recognizing existential truth behind what we commonly accept as reality. For this process of realization, I utilize various levels of human perception.
Interaction with the works is important. The viewer becomes part of the work, creating the possibility of a completely different approach or way of feeling, as one is very directly connected to the piece.
Dissolving what has become rigid. Recognizing and accepting the moment as just a moment, not as something permanent or fixed. Through the solidified surface of glass, I can see the movement of history, future, and present. Life thus becomes as fluid again as hot, molten glass.”
Korbinian Stöckle lives and works at Glashütte Gernheim, where he has been active since 1998 and has managed Studio-Gernheim since 2024. After training as a glassmaker in Zwiesel and studying glass design and sculpture at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, he dedicates himself to combining artisanal precision with artistic reflection.
In his work, Stöckle explores the tension between form, perception, and insight: “In my work, I do not attempt to directly understand and clarify the tangible and visible. It is about recognizing and dissolving preconceived notions that hinder development.”
His glass objects are created using hot and cold techniques – from free-forming at the furnace to engraving and sandblasting. The expression and process of the material determine the form. This results in vessels, sculptures, and installations that connect movement, stillness, and perception.
His works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions both at home and abroad and are represented in public and private collections.
