My ideas, which relate to glass as a material as well as to clay and canvas, are designed partly as ostensibly representational, but also partly as entirely abstract. In both cases, the respective work is based on an overarching pictorial idea that can point toward social and political issues or focus on color and form. When working with my favorite medium, glass—which has fascinated me anew for 55 years—I want to enhance the vitality, color, and depth of the material’s effect and integrate it specifically into the respective pictorial idea. The varying play of light offers the possibility of highlighting details that, in the best case, reinforce the work’s message.
