Michaela Swade
Studio: Kassel
“When I bring my objects to life, I feel their breath. By working on the glass surface, I alter the interplay of light and shadow, constantly creating new insights into details. I entrust the pulse to the form of my delicate creations.”
Michaela Swade has been working with glass since 1992. She graduated from the Zwiesel Glass School as a glass engraver (and became the 1st national winner of the craft youth competition) and glass designer. She received her master’s title as a glass finisher in 1999.
For over 30 years, she has worked in her own studio, exhibiting her objects nationally and internationally in galleries and museums.
Calligraphy also accompanies the artist throughout her life. Since 2019, she has been teaching creative workshops, primarily in her studio with a gallery character, which she has been running in Kassel for over a decade.
She is a member of the Glaskünstlervereinigung NRW (Glass Artists’ Association NRW) and the Glass Engraving Network (GEN). Since 2025, she has been recommended by the Michelangelo Foundation as an exceptional talent in the Homo Faber Guides.
Her works primarily reflect the everyday situations and entanglements of life, abstractly expressed through the grinding and engraving of glass.
Combinations with other materials are deliberately chosen. Lightness is an important characteristic as an expression of her art.
